Did you know that from 10th June 2024 it will be compulsory in England to have your cat microchipped? The new law will make it easier to reunite injured, lost or stray cats with their owners and will help to reduce the extent of common feline welfare issues such as abandonment.
All cats need to be microchipped by this date, with the only exception being feral cats. Kittens must be microchipped before they reach 20 weeks old thereafter. Contact details are stored, and must be kept current, on a government-approved pet microchipping database to ensure owners are easily traceable should cats need scanning. Microchipping itself is a one-off procedure.
