We were very sad to say goodbye to Sian on Friday. Sian has been at 387 Veterinary Centre & The West Midlands Cat Clinic as a student veterinary nurse for the past 3 years and we have loved supporting her through her Level 3 Veterinary Nursing Diploma and watching her skills and confidence grow. We were delighted for her when she passed her qualification in May. Unfortunately we don’t currently have the capacity to take on an additional qualified veterinary nurse which has meant that Sian has had to look for her first qualified veterinary nursing position elsewhere. We are sure she will be a huge success in her new job which she starts today! Thank you, Sian, for all your hard work and investment in the practice. We look forward to hearing how your first week has gone when we meet up with you on Saturday for a team evening out!

We love supporting team members to broaden their knowledge in areas of particular clinical interest. Many of you will know our vet Selenia who is holder of a postgraduate certificate in small animal dentistry. Last weekend, Seli attended the British Veterinary Dental Association’s 2026 Congress in London for two days specifically dedicated to learning more about pet dental and oral health. Lectures covered a diverse range of topics from effective pain management and handling difficult extractions to plaque prevention, anaesthesia considerations and useful protocols for exotics dentistry. Topics in the advanced lecture stream were equally as diverse, and there was even a session on how to build your own 3D printing lab for surgical planning! We look forward to hearing all about Seli’s trip when she’s back in tomorrow!

Today is our receptionist Laura’s last day in practice before she moves on to pastures new. We will be very sad to say goodbye from a team perspective, and know that she will be missed by pet owners for her lovely rapport and by canine visitors for her doggie cuddles! We all gathered for a pizza-themed long lunch in practice to wish Laura well, with our two new mummies Charlotte and Mia coming in specially too. We look forward to keeping in touch with Laura and to hearing what life holds next!

Did you know that, as part of their course, vet students need to complete a minimum of 30 weeks’ experience in veterinary practice in their holidays as part of their degree requirement? At 387 Vets and The West Midlands Cat Clinic, we enjoy welcoming vet students at different stages in their learning into practice, to help enhance their clinical skills and knowledge on placement. This is Sophie-Zara, a third year student at Harper-Keele, who has been with us for the past fortnight. As well as observing surgical procedures and vet consultations, Sophie-Zara set herself some practical objectives to complete, all of which she achieved. This was Sophie-Zara helping carry out a male neutering procedure under vet guidance and supervision, an extra to her objective list so exciting to undertake and she did a great job! We look forward to welcoming Sophie-Zara back in September and to hearing how she’s been progressing!

A big shout out to our Registered Veterinary Nurse Paige who is currently looking after these two tiny house guests. The kittens were found on a farm having been abandoned by mum and were brought in to the practice yesterday. They are still so young that they have yet to open their eyes but they are super strong and are happy to let us know when they are hungry! They need very regular bottle feeding which we’ll all be helping out with during work hours. Paige has volunteered to be mum overnight and this weekend until the babies go into longer term foster care with cat charity Voices 4 Cats on Monday. We wonder if they’ll open their eyes before the weekend is out! The kittens will be in excellent hands and we look forward to hearing how they get on!
