In an incredible tale of survival, four children, including an 11-month-old baby, have been found alive after escaping a plane crash and surviving in the Amazon rainforest for 40 days on their own.
The plane crash occurred in Colombia on May 1, resulting in the tragic death of three individuals, including the children’s mother. When authorities arrived at the crash site, they discovered that the children were missing, leading to an intense search effort to locate them.
After days of uncertainty and conflicting reports, Colombian President Gustavo Petro confirmed on Friday night that the four children who had been lost for 40 days in the Colombian jungle were found alive and are now in safe hands.
Photos shared by President Petro and the country’s military show rescuers attending to the children, who are seated on tarps on the jungle floor. A video released by the Colombian Ministry of Defense captures the moment military personnel airlifted the children into a helicopter in the darkness of the night. The children were later transported to a hospital in Bogotá, the capital, to receive necessary medical care.
According to CNN en Español, the children have been reunited with their father and grandparents following their rescue.

Petro, speaking to the media, expressed his gratitude for the combined efforts and considered the successful rescue a gift for Colombia. Although he had prematurely tweeted about the children being found alive, he later retracted the post and apologized due to conflicting information.

The plane operator stated that one of its pilots learned about the children’s survival from local residents. Indigenous radio stations confirmed the children’s safety and their upcoming arrival in a nearby village. The children’s grandmother expressed gratitude, mentioning the oldest child’s caregiving skills. Petro emphasized the importance of medical treatment, considering their prolonged ordeal, and stressed the need to assess their physical and mental well-being.
“The most important thing now is what the doctors say, they have been lost for 40 days, their health condition must have been stressed,” Petro said at a press conference. “We need to check their mental state too.”
