This is one year old springer spaniel Goose, who came in to see us last week with a very swollen face. Poor Goose had had a wasp in his mouth and we could see the sting area on the inside of his lip. Fortunately his airway was unaffected but the sting gave him quite an inflammatory reaction. What a nasty shock!
With Autumn comes the end of the wasp season, and worker wasps can become more aggressive and reactive as they panic to find enough food for hibernating queens to survive the winter. If you have fruit trees in your garden, do be particularly vigilant as wasps love the naturally sugary fallen apples, pears and plums. Try to keep inquisitive noses away!
