We were delighted to welcome Beth back from maternity leave at the end of January and many of you will already have spotted her on reception desk since she’s been back! Beth returns to the brand-new hybrid position of Client Services and Operations Coordinator. This means that, in addition to carrying out reception activity and using her SQP qualification to help streamline dispensing on desk, Beth will also spend part of her working week supporting our Operations Manager with improving efficiencies in practice as we continue to grow. This new part of Beth’s role includes price and stock checking, cross-referencing and ordering as well as checking agreed stock-related and waste reduction initiatives are being implemented. Beth will be on reception every Friday, and she’ll cover when other reception team members are poorly, have holidays booked or as the need arises. Not only does this mean that we’ll have more dedicated reception team members on desk more of the time, but it means you’ll get to see Beth on a regular basis too!

Many of you will have recognised a familiar face back on the 387 and West Midlands Cat Clinic Team! We were delighted to welcome Alanna Ankcorn back in January as a Registered Veterinary Nurse, taking our Registered Veterinary Nursing team to a new total of 10. Alanna first came to 387 Vets in January 2019 on a 3-year Student Veterinary Nurse contract in order to undertake her Level 3 Veterinary Nursing Diploma. Since qualification in 2022, Alanna has gained a huge diversity of nursing experience, working in small animal veterinary nursing most recently as a locum nurse. Positions have included small animal general practice, day and night work in veterinary hospital and referral centre nursing, and not just locally but country-wide. Keen to settle back into a permanent nursing position, Alanna applied for our recent RVN vacancy, and started back with us almost 6 years to the day she arrived as a student nurse! Super proactive, she’s hit the ground running and is already keen to start nutrition ambassador training, clinical coaching training and is a member of our practice eco team. It’s lovely to have you back, Alanna.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated to our ‘Give a Pet a Christmas Dinner’ campaign this December. As you can see, we were literally bowled over by the amount of goodies you brought in to practice to support cats and dogs in local shelters waiting for their forever homes. We collected just shy of 600 tins and sachets of wet food, more than our Clinical Director Hamish’s weight in dry food, 66 packets of treats, 50 towels and blankets, 66 leads and harnesses and enough toys for 138 pets to have a gift each. That’s not to mention coats, pet accessories, bedding, bowls, bandanas, poo bags, puppy pads and more!
All dog donations go to the Coven branch of Birmingham Dogs Home, whilst cat goods are distributed amongst local cat rescue charities. We know recipients will be touched and incredibly grateful for your amazing kindness and generosity. Thank you for sharing the love with pets in need.

Huge congratulations to our Registered Veterinary Nurse Lauren who received her International Society of Feline Medicine Feline Nursing Diploma results yesterday. We are over the moon to announce she passed with distinction!
Completing the ISFM’s Feline Nursing Diploma was no mean feat. The course spanned 16 months and 8 modules and delivered a comprehensive insight into feline physical health and mental wellbeing with a view to making experiences in clinic even more cat friendly. Diploma students are required to study for around 15 hours a week outside work with regular assessment throughout, and all training resources are produced by international cat experts so graduates come away with a brilliant bank of knowledge and lots of tools to use in day to day practice
Lauren joins one of around 200 ISFM Feline Nursing Diploma holders to date. Based primarily in theatre and in hospitalisation areas, we can’t wait for Lauren to share new learning and top tips on how we can continue to improve the clinic experience for felines who come to stay.
