Did you know that, as part of their course, vet students need to complete a minimum of 30 weeks’ experience in veterinary practice in their holidays as part of their degree requirement? At 387 Vets and The West Midlands Cat Clinic, we enjoy welcoming vet students at different stages in their learning into practice, to help enhance their clinical skills and knowledge on placement. This is Sophie-Zara, a third year student at Harper-Keele, who has been with us for the past fortnight. As well as observing surgical procedures and vet consultations, Sophie-Zara set herself some practical objectives to complete, all of which she achieved. This was Sophie-Zara helping carry out a male neutering procedure under vet guidance and supervision, an extra to her objective list so exciting to undertake and she did a great job! We look forward to welcoming Sophie-Zara back in September and to hearing how she’s been progressing!

We were delighted to welcome Beth back from maternity leave at the end of January and many of you will already have spotted her on reception desk since she’s been back! Beth returns to the brand-new hybrid position of Client Services and Operations Coordinator. This means that, in addition to carrying out reception activity and using her SQP qualification to help streamline dispensing on desk, Beth will also spend part of her working week supporting our Operations Manager with improving efficiencies in practice as we continue to grow. This new part of Beth’s role includes price and stock checking, cross-referencing and ordering as well as checking agreed stock-related and waste reduction initiatives are being implemented. Beth will be on reception every Friday, and she’ll cover when other reception team members are poorly, have holidays booked or as the need arises. Not only does this mean that we’ll have more dedicated reception team members on desk more of the time, but it means you’ll get to see Beth on a regular basis too!

It’s hard to believe Christmas is only a couple of days away! Here is our Lead Nurse Cody getting into the Christmas spirit with her festive-themed theatre cap! Look out for some of our team sporting reindeer antlers if you’re popping in during the next couple of days!
387 Veterinary Centre will be open tomorrow (Christmas Eve) until 2pm, at which point the practice will close until 8am on 27th December. We’re then open as normal until New Year’s Eve when we’ll once again have an early finish ahead of the New Year’s Day which we also all take as holiday. Normal service resumes completely from 2nd January 2025!
If you have any concerns about your pet‘s health while we are closed, all clients have free access to Vidivet, a 24/7 service offering triage advice from a qualified vet. Great if you have any meds queries or if you are unsure whether your pet needs to see a vet urgently. Check out communications from the practice for information on how to access if you haven’t already downloaded the app. Our Advice 24/7 page on our website provides lots of additional information on assessing your pet’s health.
