This is beautiful Archie who came to see us with cystitis. On carrying out tests, we discovered crystals in poor Archie’s urine. If left untreated, these crystals can turn into bladder stones which, as well as being painful, can inhibit and even stop the ability to urinate and can lead to surgery, so it’s really important to take action.
Archie went onto a special Hills prescription diet that’s specially designed to help dissolve these crystals to prevent them turning into something bigger and nastier.
It’s essential to be strict and resist the temptation to give your four legged friend little ‘extras’ here and there for the special diet to work. With this in mind, Archie’s mum has created some cookies from Archie’s kibble for between meal treats. Here are the results!

With the 10-day forecast showing lovely sunshine ahead, it’s a great opportunity for you and your pets to enjoy the great outdoors! Do, however, bear in mind that our furry friends may need a bit of extra consideration at this time to ensure they stay happy and healthy in this late-Spring warmth.
Even if it doesn’t feel truly summery yet, it’s important not to leave dogs unattended in cars in warm weather. A pleasant temperature outside can still create an oven environment in the car. Conservatories can be hot-house danger zones too. Give pets the opportunity to move away from sunshine and heat and to rest in a cooler environment should they choose. Cats will love shady spots in the garden which you can create simply by putting out a chair or your patio furniture, or by introducing pet-friendly shade-casting shrubs. If you have small furries in outdoor hutches, consider how the sun moves during the course of the day, so there’s no point at which they’ll be in full glare.
Hydration is important as the weather warms up. Putting out extra bowls with fresh water means your pets will never be too far from a hydration station at home.
And if you feel you need to apply suncream, consider whether your pets need protection too. Hairless breeds and white-furred dogs and cats are prime candidates for sunburn where there is exposed skin. Avoid by applying pet-friendly sunscreen appropriately, and remember the tips of the ears!
Hoping you and pets make the most of the wonderful May sunshine!
