Back from World Congress

ISFM 26 1 | Back from World Congress | Last week, our Registered Veterinary Nurse Rachael and our vet Emma attended the International Cat Care’s World Feline Congress at the International Convention Centre in Cardiff. The annual event brings together clinicians from across the globe for three days of world class feline learning from a host of international speakers. Topics this year included gastrointestinal disease, cardiology and respiratory disease. As well as attending lectures on improving cats’ physical and emotional care, congress gives practitioners the chance to meet and chat with a wide range of exhibitors and to network with like-minded attendees. Here are Rachael and Emma grabbing a photo with congress speaker and renowned cat vet Dr Petra Černá. We can’t wait to hear all about the trip! | Wellcare World | pet

Keeping cool!

Water Mara | Keeping cool! | With temperatures set to reach record highs this week, trying to keep our pets cool and hydrated is more important than ever. Make sure you leave lots of fresh water stations around the house. Popping ice cubes into water bowls will keep water cooler for longer. Ensure pets have access to shade and cooler spots at all times, and if there’s any chance of a gentle breeze, even better. Indoor fan sales this week must be through the roof! A special shout out to bunnies with this being Rabbit Awareness Week. Keep hutches out of the sun, ensure runs have shade, wipe the tips of your rabbit’s ears to help them cool down, and pop a frozen bottle of water wrapped in a tea towel into their living space so they can choose to lie against it should they wish. Keep water for their water bottles in the fridge – or even freeze them – for a cool refreshing drink. | Wellcare World | pet

Add a small amount of nutritious rabbit nuggets into the mix to provide extra vitamins and nutrients and a handful of fresh greens for variety, and your rabbit has the perfect spread for the day!

Did you also know that rabbits need plenty of living space to help them to balance their diet? If their living space is cramped, movement is limited which impacts their health and wellbeing and makes it harder to encourage natural feeding behaviours like grazing on hay throughout the day. As well as enabling them to stretch and explore, giving rabbits room to roam helps fuel a healthy appetite for tip top teeth and tummy health!
