Last week, 387 Vets’ directors Hamish and Rachel Duncan attended the Vet Dynamics Annual Conference in Hinkley with other like-minded independent practices, for two days of interactive lectures, workshops, Q&As and panel presentations all targeted to help independent practices thrive. Hamish and Rachel have been part of Vet Dynamics since 2021, an organisation which coaches independent practices to improve their business performance, leadership skills and team culture.
The conference culminated on Friday night with an awards ceremony in recognition of independent practices within the Vet Dynamics’ Community that particularly shine. Hamish and Rachel were delighted to be finalists for a Dynamic Team Award for the third year running, and this year, to win! Here they are with their Vet Dynamics coach Gemma and a rather fantastic lightbulb trophy and certificate!
Hamish and Rachel’s award was presented, “in recognition of their commitment to creating a workplace where shared values, growth and continual improvement allow teams to thrive. Through investment in development, the removal of obstacles and thoughtful role design, they foster engagement, collaboration and flow that strengthen both wellbeing and practice performance.”

We are delighted to report that we have passed our 2025 Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Practice Standards Scheme Assessment. The RCVS are the regulatory body for veterinary surgeons and registered veterinary nurses in the UK. Whilst their Practice Standards Scheme (PSS) is voluntary, the comprehensive framework helps drive improvement and makes practices accountable for service standards. Practices displaying the RCVS logo meet rigorous RCVS-set standards, giving owners peace of mind around their pet’s care. We’re proud that 387 Vets has been RCVS-accredited since 2009, and we particularly love the scheme for its holistic approach to practice review.
RCVS PSS assessments take place every four years and include upload of a significant bank of requested evidence onto an assessment portal followed by an on-site visit by an RCVS assessor to see evidence in practice and to speak with team.
In her feedback report, our assessor identified many areas of best practice, but made special reference to our practice culture, commenting that, “to see a practice so invested in their team is truly inspiring.” She continued that, “staff wellbeing and happiness is at the heart of this practice,” and praised the fact that, “the whole team are invested in maximising their skills, not only for their own development, but also for the development of the business.”
We believe that investing in team wellbeing and fulfilment plays a huge part in our practice identity and success. To have this recognised by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons feels amazing.

We’re very excited about this coming Saturday as 387 Vets & The West Midlands Cat Clinic will once again be hosting a stand at ChezFest. Run by the Great Wyrley and Cheslyn Hay running club and now in its second year, the family-friendly event held at the park off Rosemary Road is designed to promote health and wellbeing. There will be lots of activities to get involved in, a host of stands where local businesses will be sharing their expertise and knowledge and a delicious variety of refreshment stalls. ChezFest officially opens at 11am.
We’re flying the flag for pet health and wellbeing so please do come and say hello! There will be treats for any canine companions visiting the stand, and enter our free entry on-stand competition to be in with a chance of winning a gorgeous batch of pet goodies! We hope to see you there!

We were delighted to welcome Amy Starr to the 387 and West Midlands Cat Clinic team this February. Graduating in 2021, Amy has worked in a variety of fast-paced vet clinic environments, managing per-operative care as well as carrying out theatre nurse duties and running nurse clinics. With a passion for animal welfare, Amy has worked for the PDSA since 2022, relishing the challenge of innovation and flexibility required to problem solve. Amy is particularly interested in canine behaviour, is holder of various dog training qualifications and, in addition to her day job, ran a dog training business around work. With our Dog Friendly Clinic accreditation, we know Amy will be a great asset to the team and we look forward to her joining our RVN Rachael in running dog behaviour first aid clinics at 387 Vets.
