Big congratulations to our Registered Veterinary Nurses Renée and Paige who have won a Yumove competition to design a noticeboard about combatting itchy skin. Their entry was chosen over all others in the country and a Yumove representative came in to practice last week to present them with their prize of a £200 shopping voucher. Fantastic stuff and very well deserved. Do come and check out the noticeboard when you are next in practice, especially if your pet suffers from itchy skin!

Huge congratulations to our RVN Sharon’s husband Mark who completed a 150 mile circular cycle ride at the weekend in aid of Kats Cradle. Mark cycled from Willenhall to The Horseshoe Pass in Denbighshire with colleagues from The Walsall Roads Cycling Club to help raise money for the Coven based charity. Kats Cradle bring feline strays and re-homes to our practice for general health care and emergency treatment.
Thank you so much Mark for all the training and preparation that went into your fundraising cycle and not least for the event itself. We’re glad the sun shone for you and that the conditions were kind.

The outbreak of Marburg virusinfection in Equatorial Guinea has ended, the World Health Organization’s regional office for Africa said on Thursday.
The agency said no new cases of Marburg, caused by a deadly virus from the same family as Ebola, were reported over the past 42 days after the last patient was discharged following treatment.
The outbreak was declared on Feb. 13 and was the first of its kind in Equatorial Guinea.
A total of 17 laboratory-confirmed cases and 12 deaths were recorded. Another 23 were reported to have died from probable Marburg infection, the WHO said.
The announcement of end of the outbreak in Equatorial Guinea follows a similar move by Tanzania last week.
Marburg virus is transmitted to people from fruit bats and spreads among humans through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected people, surfaces and materials.
WHO said it is continuing to work with Equatorial Guinea to maintain measures such as surveillance and testing to enable prompt action should flare-ups of the virus occur.
